RSEC offers you the chance to learn some fascinating details about the nature of coral reefs, deserts, mangroves, sea grass and much more. You can explore the miracles of nature with us through scuba-diving or snorkeling. We offer the following options:

Reef biology courses for scuba-divers and snorkelers:

BioGuiding for different areas of interest (includes a presentation on the relevant part of the ecosystem, dive briefing, guided dive with a biologist, debriefing)

Fluorescent night dive (includes presentation, special equipment for guided dive with a biologist, debriefing)

New! Ecodiving. Environmental friendly diving in small groups with one of our marine biologists. The Ecodives will give you the opportunity to learn more about what you see during a dive. New!

The Ecodives will give you the opportunity to learn more about what you see during a dive. Choose from the following topics:

• What are coral reefs?
• Hard corals, soft corals: What is the difference and how do you distinguish them?
• Fish identification: Become acquainted with the most common fish families. 
• Seagrass meadows: Home of the inconspicuous marine creatures
• Cooperation: Interaction and communication between different reef organisms.
• Masters of disguise:  During a dive you probably overlook many camouflaged creatures. Being aware of  their existence will help you find them

Enlightening dives in small groups with one of our marine biologists. You will be given an informative briefing (using slides and books) about a topic of your interest before every dive. Under water we will show you interesting marine life/behaviour. After the dive we will discuss what we observed underwater. (Eco)Dive packages are here.

These mini-courses are aimed at normal divers and snorkelers and give a well-founded overview about of the subject matter.  After this introductory course, with anecdotes about the way of life of the creatures of the sea, you are able to enjoy your next underwater adventure from a new perspective.
Note that for these mini-courses, “identification” does not mean the strict scientific term. Identification of species in a scientifically correct way (i.e. by its Latin name) is part of the special courses for biology students (also open to the very interested layman!). 

Guided excursions
Scientific Beach walks – biologists will guide you along the coast for 1 ½ hours and will show you large and small wonders of nature and history.

Reef Check’s Ecodiver Program

Did you ever dream of becoming a marine biologist or do you just love snorkeling? The Reef Check EcoDiver program allows anyone with an interest in the ocean -- from kids to adults – to learn more about tropical coral reefs. Reef Check combines education with action to give volunteers a unique experience while taking an active role in conserving the world’s reefs.  The EcoDiver program allows participants the rare opportunity to work with teams of scientists throughout the world to combat the crises affecting our reefs today.  The world’s reefs are changing fast, and it is up to us to ensure that reefs are around for future generations.

How can you help?  Simple. If you are a beginner snorkeler or diver, enroll in the half-day Discover Reef Check Course. If you have experience snorkeling and diving and want to do more, enroll in a 3-day EcoDiver certification course that qualifies you to help our teams to monitor reefs worldwide.
