Field excursion University of Giessen, 19.03.-02.04.2007

We welcomed the excursion group from the University of Giessen with Prof. Dr. Bernd Werding for the second time in Dahab. As the last time, the main focus of the excursion was the biodiversity project and to complete the collection and database (Biodiversity of the Dahab Marine Environment - Generation of Basic Information on Marine Flora and Fauna as well as on Ecological Structures). In addition, some students took part in a Reef-Check project led by Dipl.-Biologist Christian Alter and investigated the effect of extreme low tide events on coral communities of the reef flat. More information here: Extreme low tide caused coral death at South Sinai’s coast

Field excursion University of Göttingen, 20.09.-04.10.2007

We were happy to welcome the excursion group of the University of Göttingen with Prof. Dr. Gert Wörheide and Dr. Mike Reich at the RSEC in Dahab for the third time. During the excursion: „Geobiology and biodiversity of recent and fossil reefs (Red Sea) and geobiology of the Sinai“, the students went on several day trips to the wadi Qnai, to different dive and snorkelling sites and explored the national park Ras Mohamed and the protectorate Nabq on a 3-day tour through the Sinai. Furthermore, the students participated in local reef protection efforts and investigated together with the RSEC reef biologist Christian Alter the condition of the reef flat and reef crest at highly frequented snorkelling sites.

Field excursion University of Giessen 16.-30.03.2006

For the first time we welcomed the excursion group of the University of Giessen led by Prof. Dr. Bernd Werding at the Red Sea. This marine excursion is part of the project: Biodiversity of the Dahab Marine Environment - Generation of Basic Information on Marine Flora and Fauna as well as on Ecological Structures initiated by the University of Giessen.  During the excursion the students collected basic data of the marine environment inventory in Dahab. A digital photo database complemented the inventory studies. In addition to this study, the RSEC biologists Dr. Alexander Keck and Christian Alter gave an introductory course about the reef biology of the Red Sea to the students.
